Linked from the welcome screen on day 1 as "Terms of taking part". The reader ticks one box ("I have read and agree to the Privacy Policy and the Terms of taking part") before the Continue button works, the way most apps do it. The short version is also printed under that box.
Terms of taking part
The Fourth Quarter Companion is run by Boosting Hope, Inc. with its technology partner, Zaibex LLC. Your notes are private. Only you can read what you write and your chats with the AI companion. Our emails come in Naseer Rana's name, but he does not read your replies. Your data is stored on US servers, protected with encryption, and never sold or used for ads. You can download or delete it at any time in Settings, skip any question, and stop whenever you like.
By agreeing, you confirm each of these:
I understand that AI is used. An AI companion reads my notes to ask me a question and to write my weekly notes and my report. It is always labelled as AI and never pretends to be Naseer. It is provided by OpenAI. If I use voice notes, OpenAI also turns them into text and the recording is then deleted. If I talk with my companion on a call, OpenAI runs the conversation live, the audio is not recorded, and the written words are kept in my chat history. OpenAI does not use my words to train its AI.
I understand what Naseer can see. During the pilot, Naseer Rana sees my name, my email, the date I joined, how many days I wrote this week, and a status such as "Writing", "Needs a nudge" or "Reveal done". He can also read my weekly notes and my two-month report, and I can switch that off in Settings at any time. Those reports include my average happiness scores, never my words. He never sees what I write in my journal or my chats with the AI companion.
I understand this is not medical care. This is a journal. It is not medical, counselling or emergency care, and no one reads it in real time. If I am in crisis, I will call or text 988 (in the US) or call my local emergency number.
